Lance

Since I am the writer of the blog - everything about Lance and the kids is from my perspective...not sure if that's good or bad..... :)

Lance and I met in May 1991, 3 days after he returned home from serving an LDS mission to Texas. A girlfriend of mine knew him from California (where he grew up) and introduced us and a group of us got together to go to a dance at the University of Utah. I think it was pretty much "love at first sight" for Lance.....hahaha....okay, for me too! Anyway, we danced together for most of that night and started dating each other exclusively for the next several months. I had decided before I met him that I would be going on a mission as well so I was preparing for that. I got my mission call to Madrid, Spain and was set to leave in September  1991. Lance told me he was "not the type to wait around, but we'll see what happens when you come back". Whatever.  He was cryin' his eyes out when I left from a broken heart.....alright, alright, I was pretty sad too - but I decided that if he was The One; that he'd be around when I got back. And he was. There's a whole story behind that one....maybe I'll write about it someday. He did write to me and send me care packages the whole time I was out of the country - which is pretty impressive - I don't know when he found the time; considering he was dating LOTS of girls quite REGULARLY....(grrrrrrrr)....anyway, I digress. He was single when I got home -we were engaged in May of 1993 and married in August of 1993. And we've lived happily ever after since.....:)

Lance is the ultimate handy man, resourceful, can-fix-anything type of guy. He is an engineer and has one of those minds that NEVER stops thinking or figuring things out, always analyzing, comparing data, and coming up with new and improved ways of doing things. We were in Zion National Park a couple of weeks ago and the car started to overheat. He immediately pulled over and he and a friend looked under the hood, put some water in the radiator and we eventually made our way to a gas station. He discovered some hose had come off or melted or something like that and he and his friend were trying to figure out how they were going to get this new hose part on a Sunday with only a couple small gas stations in the area. Lance gets this somewhat 'boyish' grin on his face and grabs his REI water bottle out of the car. He takes his Leatherman pocketknife out and cuts the straw to the water bottle in half. He attaches it where the missing part was and - voila! - we are good to go! The straw was the exact fit and worked like magic for the entire 5+ hour ride home. In fact, I think it's still on the car because he hasn't gotten around to going to the auto parts store for the real part. He does stuff like that ALL the time; never ceases to amaze me. Oh, and the boys were TOTALLY impressed with Dad once again! They truly believe that their Dad can fix anything - and they are right!
